Linda Conlin Receives NAO Honor

Linda Conlin, founder of OpticalCEUs and president of F.E. Enterprises, recently received an honor in the optical field. At a recent meeting, the board of the National Academy of Opticianry (NAO) named her Ambassador of the Year.

The academy describes itself as “the nation's only non-profit organization solely dedicated to providing education and training for all opticians from entry to advanced level." The NAO conducts seminars around the country, provides online courses, home study courses, and is a resource for writers of text books and study guides. The associations adds, “We cover all aspects of education and training from career preparation--internationally known as the Ophthalmic Career Progression Program-- certification and licensing exam preparation, and continuing education for beginning- through advanced-level opticians.”

As an NAO ambassador, Ms. Conlin has helped opticians and other optical personnel to take advantage of these educational opportunities, especially through membership in the NAO. She has promoted the association at each of the semiannual OpticalCEUs Seminars for licensed opticians and other optical personnel, held at the Foxwoods Resort and Casinos, which has sold out on the past three occasions.

During each of these seminars, she does a brief presentation. She also provides membership materials for those attending the conference. She has also talked about the NAO at a career fair for high school students. She says of the NAO, “I especially recommend membership in the NAO as a resource for apprentice opticians in Connecticut or any state for the matter who may not be able to attend a structured educational program for opticianry, as run at some junior colleges, such as Middlesex Community College in Connecticut.”
